What is a Block Rosary?

The Block Rosary is a devotion wherein a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary visits the home of a family for a nine-day novena (the nine days can be shared with neighbours). It encourages the family to pray the Rosary everyday not only for their own intentions but for the intentions of the whole community. The Block Rosary Crusade was established in different parishes to promote the neighborhood Rosary prayer.  It is not uncommon then for neighbors to get to know each other better through the Block Rosary, which fosters not only common prayer, but friendships and goodwill as well.

Block rosary

Many miracles continue to this day throughout the Block Rosary.  It has proven to be a living apostolate for people returning to the Catholic Faith, or a means to interact with your neighbours in a neighbourhood. The evidence of miracles through answered prayers has happened over and over in different homes where our Blessed Mother came to visit.

Through the Block Rosary, we hope to build and strengthen the family's faith. The family is the hope of the Church and the Block Rosary is one of great family traditions of the Catholic Church that we can pass on to our children as an inheritance.

Block rosaries began in St Joseph's Church in 1935 under the Sodality of Our Lady of Fatima, during the time of Father Antonio da Silva Rego, Vicar of the St Joseph's Church from 1929 to August 1938. Today, families are still hosting block rosaries in different locales in Singapore.

May 13th to October 13th 2017 marked one hundred years since the apparitions of Our Lady at Fatima.  As part of the centennial celebrations and to promote the Fatima message of Penance, Prayer and Devotion to Her Immaculate Heart, block rosaries are being encouraged by parishioners and their respective families, to reacquaint themselves with the undeniable power of the rosary. Contact us if you are interested to host a block rosary. Otherwise call the relevant persons listed below.
